RSPB Middleton Lakes - Replacement Bridge
What's better than working in a great location AND achieving a great result for your customer?
The team at RSPB Middleton Lakes, as well as the many visitors to the reserve, are delighted with the recently installed Bison Bridge.
A 7.0 mtr span recycled plastic Bison bridge was specified to replace a failed bridge at the Middleton Lakes RSPB reserve. The footpath where the bridge is located is in constant use by RSPB members and visitors, which meant the removal of the old bridge, casting the new concrete abutments in situ and installation of the new bridge had to be carried out as quickly as possible to limit down time.
The bridge location is well suited to a long-life Bison bridge; with tree cover and plenty of water around, a timber structure would have provided a lower initial purchase cost (for materials) but only a disappointingly short life span.
With hot-dipped galvanised steel beams and rot proof recycled plastic, the Bison bridge structure is a long-term footbridge solution.
